Test your knowledge in this free online interactive game of the formal synonyms of commonly used (informal or neutral) verbs in English to help your professional (e.g. business) and academic writing and communication.
You will see the formal synonyms of some of the following verbs in the game: Affect, Answer, Ask about, Ask for, Buy, Can, Check/Prove, Choose, Compensate, Deal with, Deserve, Dislike/Disagree, End, Fix/Resolve, Forget, Give, Go to, Happen, Help, Hide, Make sure, Promise, Remember, Risk, Say, Show, Start, Suggest, Talk about, Tell, Think/Believe, Understand, Want & Work with. .
If you are unsure about the use of these formal verb synonyms (or want to see other synonyms of them), I would recommend going to our Business & formal English vocabulary for writing web page after you have done the game, where you will find a list of them all (with example sentences).
It's simple. Match the formal verb in the game screen to its commonly used (informal or neutral) equivalent verb. You have 15 seconds to identify the synonym of each formal verb. Click on the verb below the game screen for which you think it is.
The quicker you identify the verb, the more points you get. However, if you guess wrong you won't be able to make another guess for 1.5 seconds. Also, the less wrong guesses you make in the game, the more bonus points you are given at the end.
Press the 'Play The Game' button to begin the game.
