Test your knowledge of the names of the main types of taxes paid in the United Kingdom in this free online interactive game. In this game you will be shown the names of different taxes and you have to match each to its definition.

You will see the definitions/descriptions of the following 12 taxes: Business rates, Capital gains tax, Corporation tax, Council tax, Customs duties, Direct taxes, Excise duty, Income tax, Indirect taxes, Inheritance tax, National insurance & Value added tax.

If you are unsure about what some of the above taxes are (e.g. on what you have to pay them on), I would recommend doing our vocabulary exercise on the names & types of UK taxes after you have done the game, where you will learn exactly what the tax is.

If you want to test your knowledge of taxes in the United States of America (which are very similar to the ones in Britain, but can have different names), do our online game on the types of US taxes.

How to play it

It's simple. Match the name of the tax to the definition/description. You have 25 seconds to identify the tax for each of the definitions which you are given. Click on the name of the crime below the definition/description which you think it is.

The quicker you identify the definition/description, the more points you get. However, if you guess wrong you won't be able to make another guess for 1.5 seconds. Also, the less wrong guesses you make in the game, the more bonus points you are given at the end.

Press the 'Start The Game' button to begin the game.

Different versions of the game

Although the content (the vocabulary and images) is the same, the version of this game is different (because of the screen space) between when you play it on a mobile phone and when you play it on a bigger screen device (like on a laptop, a desktop or a large interactive board screen). The game on bigger screen devices has been designed for more classroom environments.
